Voters’s Response to Corruption
Some may feel hopeless about the corruption in Illinois and skeptical of “reforms” proposed to end it. However, Illinois voter polls reveal corruption does matter to voters, a sign that true reform may become a possibility. The Tribune reported:
- Gov. Pat Quinn’s soft approval ratings – 35% of respondents have no opinion.
- Mayor Daley’s approval rating is 35% in Chicago, with a disapproval rating of 47%.
- Todd Stroger has an approval rating of 10% and a disapproval rating of 70%.
- 77% support a recall amendment and 76% support term limits.
Illinoisans clearly want to end corruption and implement true reform. In addition to term limits and a recall amendment, voters should also put transparency at the top of their list as a means of identifying and rooting out corruption.
