Where Did that 100K Go?
Here was have another blaring example of Illinois’ need for transparency in government:
A $100,000 state grant for a botanic garden in Englewood that then-state Sen. Barack Obama awarded in 2001 to a group headed by a onetime campaign volunteer is now under investigation by the Illinois attorney general amid new questions, prompted by Chicago Sun-Times reports, about whether the money might have been misspent.
The garden was never built.
How was the state grant money spent? Find out more in the Sun-Times article here. Let’s shine some light on government spending in Illinois. We need transparency now. So much money is wasted on projects like the one mentioned above while our state budget sinks deeper into deficit.
The awful lack of accountability, as blatantly seen in the Englewood botanical garden project, fosters negligent spending, corruption, and waste. Illinois needs to restore accountability in government spending by shining light on it with comprehensive transparency.
This botanical garden project is just one example. Imagine how many others are out there, wasting yourtax dollars. Transparency would help get our government back on track.
