Defying Taxpayers

Without any authority to do so, our Governor imposed state-subsidized health care. Now…
“He won’t tell taxpayers how many people are participating, how much tax money has been spent, or even which state account he’s using to keep funds for the program.”
Open government? Accountability? Transparency, anyone?
And more on the topic…
“It should be readily available there for our staffs and the general public. Most other states actually give out (numbers of) enrollees by county,” said Rep. Frank Mautino, D-Spring Valley, chairman of the House Insurance Committee and co-chairman of the Legislative Audit Commission. “I can’t understand a denial of what should be public information.”
Precisely. How are taxpayers, or legislators, supposed to know whether a program is working or not when they can’t get basic data?
Let’s open up the books in Illinois and help clean up messes like this, and the plenty others facing our state, with transparency.
